ACA and TT: the sweet sound of duelling banjos
It's no revelation that current affairs shows tend to fish for stories from the same shallow, stagnant pond, but when the ABC's Media Watch recently turned its flinty gaze to the phenomenon it got us thinking.
It's a safe bet that at any given time, on a nature strip or in a car park, somewhere in suburbia, Today Tonight are jostling with A Current Affair over the same drop of slime. So what's going to happen when TEN's entry to the field joins the race? Are there really enough Barking Dog Man / bad neighbour/ cheapest meat/ weight loss tea/ flab buster blah blah stories to go around?
We know George Negus will be gunning for some cred when his gig starts on TEN, but we're wondering if commercial TV's 6pm audience has the stomach for serious news.
